Knitting for Water..On Wednesday, September 12th the AIWC- Cologne held their annual Welcome Back Bunch - it is always a fun event where members can catch up with friends after summer vacations and meet new arrivals. This year, there was a buzz throughout the room in anticipation of the raffle...
The talented ladies from the Stitch ‘n’ Bitch group had spent the previous 4 months creating a beautiful “Water themed” afghan; 18 individuals contributing 130 squares; every knitter’s squares were included - regardless of level of skills. Participation in the project was voluntary and very fulfilling, as Activity Co-Leader, Sally Webersinke explains, “The experience of working towards our goal so intensively, so cooperatively and yet still with lots of chatter and laughter within the small group was very rewarding and has certainly deepened our friendships.” Her partner, Mary Dobrian, shared her experience: "I felt I was raising awareness as I was knitting... I was often asked what I was working on by other members and even strangers. I would begin telling them about the wells we were supporting in Cambodia. So we didn't just raise money, we raised awareness about the importance of water in Third World communities."
They raised € 1330! All the winnings will be donated to FAWCO’s Target Water Project to support the building of wells in Cambodia through Tabitha – Cambodia.
Congratulations ladies!
