It isn't often that BWN has the opportunity to eat, drink, be merry and directly support one of the club's charities all at the same time. In April, BWN members met face-to-face with recipients of their philanthropic efforts at a Solidarity Lunch & Visit at the ARED Foundation. Members enjoyed a tour of the training workshops, a visit to the gift shop, and were warmly welcomed by the founder of the organization, staff, and students. A delicious three course meal was prepared by the cooking/catering students and was enjoyed by all.
The ARED foundation was founded in 1994 at the Penitentiary Wad Ras (Barcelona) by five women prisoners, a volunteer, and a
seamstress/dress designer who today is the President of ARED. The foundation works for the social and occupational integration of women who are at a high risk of social exclusion and who come from correctional centers and city social services. BWN applauds the ARED philosophy that every person is capable of overcoming bad circumstances and rising above misfortune. BWN members were impressed with the facility and the progress of the various training programs, and especially pleased to be able to see the training workshop which is partly sponsored by BWN.
