I have just read the book What We Think About When We Try Not To Think About Global Warming, by Per Espen Stoknes. (Terrible title and misleading, actually, but a good book.) He talks about selling global warming by stressing the positive changes that would come about if we take serious measures - possibilities for really sizzling social change as well as environmental. While those of us who are actively concerned about climate change respond seriously to messages of gloom and doom, the deniers and the apathetic do not. As there are a lot of them, not all being paid by the fossil fuel industry but rather lazy, scared, overwhelmed - it is worthwhile trying to find new ways to approach them.
